ABOUT ISUF
ISUF is the international organization of urban form for researchers and practitioners. It was inaugurated in 1994, bringing together urban morphologists worldwide. It seeks to advance research and practice in fields concerned with the built environment.

The International Seminar
on Urban Form
The International Seminar on Urban Form unites under the same umbrella internationals scholars interested in the study of urban form. In urban morphology the form of cities is addressed in the larger framework of the relationships between humans and their environment – social, economic, and cultural, building on traditions evolved over the last 70 years. Its members are scholars from several disciplines, including architecture, geography, history, sociology, and town planning.
The output of this rich, diverse, and multi-disciplinary research is published in the journal “Urban Morphology” and disseminated through international conferences and symposia.
ABOUT UDSU
UDSU is a research unit at the University of Strathclyde with over 10 years of experience in studying and analysing how urban space changes over time and space, focusing on concepts of adaptive space, longevity, resilience and evolution. UDSU aims at provoking innovations in Urban Design by establishing new bridges with other disciplines of the built environment like urban morphology and geography, as well as other sciences like the biology of evolution or the physics of complex networks.
The Urban Design Studies Unit at the Department of Architecture
The Urban Design Studies Unit at the University of Strathclyde was set up in 1989 by Hildebrand Frey and, over the years, it has developed over time within the areas of ecological, urban, and economic sustainability, the history of urban design, minorities and the built environment.
Currently the Unit, led by Prof Sergio Porta, is expanding further towards an interpretation of urban form and dynamics as layered manifestations of complex relationships of mutual change and evolution that require new ways of interpreting, representing and managing space.
The Unit is part of the Department of Architecture, a leading Architectural and Urban Design school ranked No.1 in Scotland and No. 3 in the UK by the Complete University Guide league tables Architecture.
The UDSU team includes academic staff and their PhD students, and a larger cohort of doctoral and post-doctoral students from the Department of Architecture as a whole.
